Administrative and public law in Scottish Bar

Ampersand Advocates

At Ampersand Advocates, the team is very highly regarded for its expertise in handling high-profile public law disputes and judicial review cases. In a recent matter, Susanne Tanner KC represented the Scottish Ministers in a judicial review brought by the Children and Young Person’s Commissioner Scotland regarding the Ministers’ alleged failure to implement rules ensuring that questions of compatability with the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child – which is incorporated into the law in Scotland, but not England and Wales – can be formally notified to the Commissioner in Scottish Tribunals. Usman Tariq KC is sought after for his experience in representing Scottish and UK government departments in high-profile litigation. Turning to the juniors, Scott Clair is ‘clear and concise; his oral advocacy is outstanding, and he commands the attention of the court’. Julian Ghosh KC, as was, is now a Senator of the College of Justice. Aidan O’Neill KC and Timothy Young KC (as a junior) left the stable in June 2026, and Ross Anderson KC took silk in September 2026.
